MEASURING FOR SIZE AND FIT
A great fitting helmet is essential for player comfort and protection. The ZERO1 offers three helmet sizes paired with a choice of FORM Liners, ridge pads, and jaw pads that deliver a custom fit and superior comfort without the need for air bladders and shims.
CIRCUMFERENCE
- 1. Using a standard paper or fabric tape measure, find your head circumference in inches.
- 2. Ensure the tape measure touches the following points on the athlete’s head while measuring:
-
- a. 1-inch above the brow line
- b. ½ inch above each ear
- c. Longest point on the back of the head
NOTE: For those with thicker hair, compress the tape measure until feeling the hair ‘push back’ or create slight resistance to the tape measure. This will serve as a good approximation for the fit of the helmet. -
- 3. Find your circumference and matching shell size in the table below:
CIRCUMFERENCE ZERO1 SHELL SIZE
- BELOW 21”N/A
- 21” – 22 ½”A
- 22 ½” – 23 ¾”B
- 23 ¾” – 24 ¾”C
- ABOVE 24 ¾”N/A
If the measurement lands between helmet sizes, always move to the next size up.
THE FITTING PROCESS
ATTACH FORM LINERS TO ARCH SHELL
Attach the thinnest FORM Liners to the ARCH Shell by aligning snaps and then snapping into place.
BEGIN FITTING PROCESS
Have the player put the ZERO1 on and pull it down to a secured position.
CHECK INITIAL FIT
Check initial fit by rotating the helmet left and right, then up and down, while the player holds their head still. If initial fit is too loose, replace the necessary FORM Liners (Front/Back and/or Side) with thicker padding until satisfied. The forehead skin should move with the direction of the helmet. The helmet should be snug, but not uncomfortable.
ADJUST HELMET HEIGHT
For most players the helmet should sit approximately 1” above the eyebrows. If the helmet sits too low, replace the ridge pad with a thicker pad. Adjust the ridge pad until satisfied with helmet height.
ADD JAW PADS
With the ZERO1 still on, hold up the jaw pads to find the approximate thickness. Locate the two retention studs, and install the lower facemask T-nut before installing the jaw pads (if the facemask is already installed, the T-nut is already in place). Align the jaw pad holes with the retention studs. Apply pressure to the jaw pad until it clicks firmly into place. Have the player put the helmet back on. Confirm the fit and comfort are unchanged. Jaw pads should be snug, but not uncomfortable.
ADD CHINSTRAP
Have the player center and hold cup on their chin. Estimate the strap length by aligning the strap to each snap location. Starting with the bottom straps, move the buckle along the chinstrap until you have the appropriate length so the chinstrap has minimal slack. Attach the snaps and check for fit. Next, adjust the top straps. If the facemask is already attached to the helmet, remove the buckle from the strap and guide the strap between the facemask and the helmet. Then, reattach the buckle. Estimate the strap length by aligning the strap to each snap location. Move the buckle along the strap until you have the appropriate length so the strap has minimal slack. Attach the snaps and check for fit. For added security, the top straps can be permanently affixed to the helmet. The chincup should be snug, but not uncomfortable.
ADD FACEMASK
Select a facemask model according to player position and preference. Align mask clips with holes in helmet shell, and fasten securely with hardware provided.
CHECK FINAL FIT
Confirm comfort, visibility, and range of motion with player. Make any adjustments necessary and check for fit:
- 1. The skin of the forehead should move with the helmet in all directions when the facemask is moved up and down and side to side.
- 2. The helmet’s front ridge should sit approximately 1” above the player’s eyebrows.
- 3. Pressing down on top of the helmet, the player should feel pressure only on the crown of the head, not the brow or back of the head.
